Designing your floatationroom can be a creative endeavour but there are also a number of practical
requirements that have to be dealt with.
|
 |
SIZE:
Spacewise a surface of 14 square meters is a reasonable minimum to start with. It is definitely
advisable to create the showerfacility as close to the tank as possible. Besides minimising the
spill of salt water when getting out of the tank, it is also a good combination in one room because
of temperature, humidity and privacy to (un)dress. The floorspace of the KoanFloat-tank is
2.70 x 1.80 m. and for the door to allow to open all the way you'll need a height of 2.20 m.

The watercleansing installation should be installed in another room or some kind of cupboard.
Although it measures only 0.4 x 0.7 m. you should reserve a surface of 1.20 x 1.00 m.
The water-purification-system is 1.10 m high but for exchanging the UV-tube after 7000 burning
hours you'll reckon with a double height of 2.20 m. A grounded electricity outlet and a water
tap and drainage is needed here as well. as in the floatroom.
LIGHT:
The unlimited floating experience is not only triggered by the liberation of gravity but
also by complete darkness. The polyester fibers of which the tank is constructed have a
slight degree of transparancy, that is to say, don't position your tank in straight
intense daylight. You do not need windows in your floatationroom but if you do, make
sure you can effectively blind them because it can be quite a shock for the eyes when
getting out of a session to be exposed to full daylight at once. Also your electric
lighting is preferrably controlled with a dimmer, is indirect and do not use fluorescent
tubes but normal bulbs. When you have a dimmed cosy lighting arrangement in mind, make
sure to imply the possibility for clear worklight in case of inspection of the floatation instrument.
TEMPERATURE
The water-temperature is matching the body-temperature and ideally the air-temperature
in the tank as well. That's one of the reasons to create a warm floatationroomtemperature
of 26-28 degrees Celcius. This 'tropical-room-arrangement' is not only comfortable for
the showering and floating but it also minimises condensation and prevents the solution
from crystallising which can occur if the temperature drops below 26øC.
HUMIDITY
It's obvious that for a warm-water tank and a shower an adequate circulation of
air is needed to deal with the humidity. The fact that we are talking about a salty
humidity brings along certain quality-standards for the floatationroom since this can
be rather agressive for certain materials. KoanFloat-Technologies can give you further
advice on the preferred materials to be used.
